A duel between two MVP quarterbacks for a Super Bowl ticket!
It is now official that the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC Championship after their victory against the Buffalo Bills. Even though there are still five days until the big game, assessing these two football heavyweights will take time, and it will be important to watch how they approach one another.
Like every other club in the NFL, the Ravens are in a desirable position following their divisional round victory against the Houston Texans, 34-10. The Ravens have dominated nearly every team they have faced in the second half of the season, including multiple postseason contenders, thanks to their outstanding defense and MVP quarterback. Since the metric’s introduction, according to Aaron Schatz, they had, at 55.2%, the greatest DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) following the divisional round. Additionally, they lead their competitors with 11 triumphs, setting a record for most wins in the Super Bowl era. Three teams have won the Super Bowl when they had defeated the champions by a margin of at least ten games.
In the last two weeks, they have excelled in their respective fields. It’s important to recognize that Kansas City defeated the very skilled Buffalo Bills club despite losing to the Miami Dolphins in the wildcard round. One of the best quarterbacks of his time, Patrick Mahomes leads the field and has led the Chiefs to six straight AFC Championships. They appear to be building on their momentum, as their defense is ranked second in a few categories, behind only the Ravens.
The Chiefs have something to say about the championship pedigree, even if the Ravens have outperformed Kansas City in about every way this season. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have played in bigger games.
Even though Kansas City plays excellent defense, they haven’t faced guys as aggressive as Jackson or those from Baltimore. Jackson attained his ultimate form at last. In the second half, Jackson and the team’s astute play-calling and execution fully neutralized their weakness—blitz. Would you like to assault him? They’ll know the answers. Would you like to be covered? Jackson will open the receiver as slowly as necessary. He is unaffected by spies, and he exposes many linebackers by staying inside, a position in which he has performed exceptionally well this year. The Ravens have encountered a lot of excellent defensive and security coordinators this season. Lou Anarumo, Demeco Ryans, Vic Fangio, Jim Schwartz, and numerous others. It was easy to handle everyone. Currently, they must
There’s little doubt that Steve Spagnuolo, Andy Reid, and Patrick Mahomes will have a strategy. It’s critical that the Ravens play like they did on Saturday and stay true to their physicality and ruthlessness, which define them as the Baltimore Ravens. Patrick Queen once remarked, “We play a brand of football that other teams don’t want to play.”
Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes are shown here getting ready for the Super Bowl. On his draft night, Lamar Jackson famously promised to deliver Baltimore a Super Bowl. The moment is indeed right. This team has the potential to be the best in Ravens history. Though Jackson will undoubtedly wear purple and black in the future, it remains to be seen if his current roster will surpass the ones to come. There’s a tangible sense of excitement and limitless opportunities. Let’s support them in their current and future endeavors to create history.
The Ravens’ victory over Houston was noteworthy, in my opinion. They are obviously in a setting where they must either win or lose, but the truth is that their thoughts are clouded by previous playoff disappointments. Besides, any “war” that had accrued during their protracted farewell ought to have come to an end by now. With any luck, they will provide a little more insight than they did the week before.
This entire moment has a mystery vibe about it. AFC Championship football? In Baltimore? In the daytime? It is unique if that makes sense. The Chiefs have played their last five games at Arrowhead Stadium, and the Ravens have never hosted an AFC Championship. In fact, this will be the first championship game in the previous 20 years to be played somewhere other than New England, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Denver, or Kansas City.
As I said last week, Houston will continue to be a major topic of conversation. Despite scoring 45 points against the Browns the previous week, the Texans failed to get into the red zone when playing Baltimore. This year, Texas wanted to score two touchdowns in each game. Identify the person. Dolphins and Bills were excellent teams, but they were also highly flawed. Both were severely deficient in defense and somewhat dependent on the superiority of a single player. Tua Tagovailoa for the Dolphins. Josh Allen for the Bills.
