Owings Mills, MD In an attempt to lessen the load on tight end Mark Andrews, the Baltimore Ravens added several skilled pass catchers during the offseason.
This is more crucial than ever right now.
Andrews is probably done for the season after having ankle surgery this week. His absence will affect Baltimore’s receiving corps as a whole as well as the depth of their tight end roster.
‘It’s always a group effort,’ stated receiver Rashod Bateman. The world seems to have become fixated on wide receivers, but the Baltimore Ravens have shown this season that anybody can step up and produce big plays.
Andrews was an All-Pro in 2021, hauling in 1,361 yards from 107 receptions. While he still ranks highly among the team’s best receivers with 73 receptions for 847 yards last season, rookie Ty’Flowers has already surpassed him with 53 grabs for 588 yards this season.
With 45 receptions, Andrews has scored six touchdowns. It’s obvious that his absence will be difficult to fill after they were defeated by Cincinnati last week.
“When you have to go off-script sometimes, and when I go off-script, he’s my number one guy, there’s some kind of connection between me and him,” said quarterback Lamar Jackson. That will be missed.
Prior to the 2018 season, the Ravens had selected tight ends Charlie Collar and Isaiah Likely in the first round. most likely had 36 receptions in the 2022 regular season after leading the Ravens in receptions during their inaugural preseason. In Baltimore’s last game before Andrews was hurt, Mark Andrews only played four aggressive snaps and caught nine catches this season.
However, Collar has only ever caught five passes in his career, and he was sick on Friday, so he missed practice. Collar appears to be the Ravens’ best tight end option for the time being.
Likely exclaimed, “I love Mark.” “It hurt to see him fall.” “Just stay on course and be ready all the time,” Mark advised me.
Prior to this season, the Ravens made an effort to improve their group of wide receivers. In the first round, they signed Odell Beckham Jr. and selected Flowers. Nelson Agholor was also added, and Mark Andrews has contributed significantly.
A more well-rounded passing attack is the outcome. Beckham has caught 20 catches this season and is coming off a 116-yard receiving performance against the Bengals.
The group’s incomplete health is the issue. Despite being limited in practice on Wednesday due to a foot injury, Beckham wants to play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. Beckham’s shoulder is dubious. Even if he stated on Friday that he will undoubtedly be available, Flowers (hip) is as well.
They’ve been much more critical since Andrews left.
“I think more than ever, we’re perhaps more prepared than ever to deal with something like this from recent memory,” stated head coach John Harbaugh. We have plenty of players, including tight ends, running backs, and wide receivers, who can step up and create plays. I have a lot of positive vibes about the guys that will collectively cover for Mark Andrews.
Remarks: The only other player the Ravens benched on Friday was cornerback L.B. Trenton Simpson (concussion). Tony Stanley, a tight end, stated he hopes to play despite his knee being doubtful. CB Marlon Humphrey (calf) and Malik Harrison (back) are both questionable. CB Pape Williams (thigh) is questionable; however, this week he participated fully in practice following his designation as a returner from injured reserve.
